Tips for our Swim with a Special Child Volunteers

Don’t worry! You will be a PRO after your first couple of weeks.

The following is normal procedure:

Arrive 15 minutes ahead of your pupils swim time.

  • Check in on charts.

  • Dress in your swimming suit. Use lockers for clothes. Bring your own lock, but only use it for the morningas lockers are not to be left locked overnight.

  • Have coffee if desired.

  • Meet with your 1st hour Class Leader in her designated area.

  • Class Leader will give instructions and assign you a pupil.

  • We recommend that you do not wear jewelry as swimmers can grab at it. Also, chemicals in the water can damage gold jewelry and loosen prongs.

  • Assistance is always nearby. Your Class Leaders will assign you to an experienced volunteer to work with until you feel confident on your own. Follow along with them and work near them in the pool. They will aide you  and answer your questions. Your Class Leader will also be near to assist you, so never feel at a loss as to what you can do next.

  • Please be sure to contact your Class Leader if you have to be absent on any Tuesday, so that she can plan for a substitute for you when necessary.

  • It goes with out saying: the children’s safety is always our first and foremost concern. Please never leave your pupil unattended in or out of the pool. After your class, accompany them to their teacher.

If you have any problems or questions or you are unsure or unhappy with your lot, please don’t hesitate to contact your Class Leader or myself.

Thank you so much for joining us. I hope you enjoy our program!
