Our Story

Founded in 1971, Jean Rainy and June Doherty volunteered with children with disabilities and saw a need to expand opportunities. So the two women took the opportunity to create a swim program for children with disabilities, knowing how important being in the water is for these children. The program began with students from South Shore Mental Health. Today students from Milton, Braintree, Quincy, Hingham, Cohasset, Rockland, Norwell, Marshfield, Canton, Weymouth, and Pembroke participate in the program.

From the beginning, Jean and June engaged many volunteers and reached out to the school systems to engage students. Today 51 years later, over 60 volunteers continue to participate and have taught hundreds of students throughout the years to swim.
